The Jackson Preparatory School Class of 2012, with 8 National Merit Semifinalists and 2 Commended Students, continues a Jackson Prep tradition of success in the National Merit Scholarship program.

Since 1970, Jackson Prep has produced 525 National Merit Semifinalists. More than 1.5 million juniors in nearly 22,000 high schools entered the 2012 National Merit Program by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

BRANDON, MS (WLBT) - Rankin County residents voted "no' to a $170 million school bond issue. Nearly 40% voted for the bond issue, while just over 60% voted against it.

Money from the bond would have been used to add buildings and facilities to Rankin County schools. The vote has many disappointed, while others are breathing a sigh of relief.

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Voters in Rankin County defeated a 169.5 million dollar school bond issue Tuesday.

The bond was slated to fund massive infrastructure additions and upgrades.

Nearly 40 percent voted for the bond issue while just over 60 percent voted against it.

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Voters in Rankin County will go to the poll Tuesday to vote on a proposed $169.5 million bond issue for their schools.

Rankin County school officials say the money would go towards substantial upgrades to their facilities, due to increased student populations.

New high schools are proposed for McLaurin, Northwest Rankin, and 150 additional classrooms throughout the district.

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Governor Haley Barbour has declared September "College Savings Month" and a state program that kicked off this month is making saving easier.

Wednesday, State Treasurer Tate Reeves marked College Savings Month by kicking off the enrollment period for the Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College tuition program, or MPACT.
