Pearl PD identifies device that caused bomb scare | News

PEARL, MS (WLBT) - The Pearl Police Department has identified the device that caused a bomb scare and closed a road Wednesday afternoon.

Pearl police Lieutenant Butch Townsend said the device – a cylinder of gas enclosed inside a double capped piece of pipe -- is used in the gas pipeline industry.

Townsend said the safety measures used Thursday were warranted because the use and disposal of the chemical inside the cylinder is best left to professionals.

Survey crews found the device, which looked much like a pipe bomb, in a wooded area off El Dorado Road.

Police closed a two-mile section of the road while a bomb squad was brought in to evaluate the device.
