Woman who turned in purse is arrested | Crime
PEARL, MS (WLBT) - A seemingly good Samaritan who turned in a purse left in a shopping cart has been arrested.
Pearl police say 41-year-old Tammy Rochelle Bowman of Polkville took $900 in cash from the purse before she turned it in at the store’s customer service counter Dec. 23.
An elderly woman had accidentally left the purse in a shopping cart in the Pearl Walmart's parking lot, police said.
Last week, police asked the public to help identify the woman, who was captured on surveillance video in the store. Tips from the public led to her identification and arrest.
Police said Bowman admitted to taking $500 in cash from the purse, but there is evidence to show she took the full $900 that was missing.
Bowman was arrested Tuesday and charged with grand larceny. She is being held on $50,000, bond in the Rankin County jail. She waived her preliminary hearing and is set to appear before the Rankin County Grand Jury.
