Puppy stolen from crate in family's home | Crime
PEARL, MS (WLBT) - A 6-month-old puppy -- fresh out of surgery -- was stolen from her crate in her family's home Friday afternoon.
Pearl resident Kathy Gaines said she left home around noon Friday and returned two hours later to find someone had jumped her backyard fence, broken in the back door and took her lab and pit bull mix puppy Pippy out of her crate.
The intruders then kicked down baby gates throughout the house and left through the front door -- Pippy was the only thing taken from the home.
Gaines, who lives in the Silver Ridge neighborhood off of Highway 468 in Pearl, said people in the neighborhood had shown interest in Pippy in the past and even asked if they could buy her.
The Gaines family rescued Pippy as a puppy when she was abandoned in a neighbor's yard and had no idea she was so valuable someone would steal her.
"It just break my heart not knowing where she is," Gaines said Monday morning.
The Pearl Police Department has gotten involved and is investigating the incident, Gaines said.
Pippy was spayed Wednesday and has a fresh scar on her belly. She is brown and white, has green eyes and weighs about 33 pounds.
If you have any information about Pippy or see her, call Gaines at 601-383-2278 or the Pearl Police Department.
